Who's A.J. Ford?

I'm talking with my boss the other day about her invitation to the Indy 500. I told her that although I am a native Hoosier, and now live in Speedway, IN, just a few miles from the track, I really would have no interest in going. She said she doesnt' like racing, but that practice is actually pretty cool, and you get to rub shoulders with people like A.J. Foyt. Well, I didn't hear Foyt... no, no... I heard Ford. So, I ask, "Who is A.J. Ford?" She just looks at me, doesn't respond, and I'm left to wonder the rest of the day who this A.J. guy is. So, later, I'm talking to my boyfriend Shaun, and I'm telling him this story... he starts laughing hysterically, and says, "It's Foyt honey, not Ford." (As if this clears anything up for me). So, to make the story even funnier, I am riding in the car with Sam and we are driving by The Speedway, something I do at least twice a day... I notice this HUGE sign with a picture of A.J. and his name in HUGE letters, with a bunch of years on it. Years he won races I'm sure. So, why I didn't notice this until 2 days ago, I don't know... I guess Shaun's right... I am pretty clueless to my surroundings.

Friendship

Have you thought about your friends... like how you met them, or why you are still friends wtih me even though if you met this person today you wouldn't even consider being friends wtih them? Well, I went to lunch with one of these friends today. I'm not sure why, or why I continue to talk to this person on a daily basis. Maybe I feel badly that he doesn't really have any other friends, or the fact that on occasion we actually have a good conversation. The most annoying thing about this friend is that he thinks we are better friends than we really are. He tells me his inner most thoughts, and I tell him what I had for dinner last night. I would like to keep this person as an acquaintence, maybe speak to him once a week or less, but that just wouldn't be good enough for him. What are your thoughts on how to rid myself of a clingy friend?

snackwagon

So, one of my "jobs" at work is to push around a cart of snacks and pop and sell it to my co-workers for 50 cents each. Proceeds of said "snackwagon" benefit the MAP committee that I am now the sole member of. MAP committee, although it sounds important, really stands for Morale and Parties. Needless to say, I am supposed to walk around and increase morale by pumping people full of sugar. This, sadly, is quite possibly the highlight of my day as I get to say hello to everyone and hear them compliment me on what a daily treat it is to see me with a cart of goodies. Today was an extra fun day for 2 reasons. One, I tried the Diet Coke with Lime. This was less than delightful to say the least. It takes like I'm drinking a cleaning supply. I'm continuing to drink it because, and only because, I paid for it. I think I am going to run a promotion on these for 35 cents a piece instead of 50 to get rid of them (Sam's idea). The second thing occured as I was telling 2 of my co-workers about the fun Sam and I had yesterday. Sam pointed out some holes in my story from yesterday, so let me fill you in. We wore the same clothes to run these errands as what we wore to work. She had on a short dress, and I had on a semi see through skirt. So, at the carwash Sam was bending over and her dress was flying up, and my skirts got wet which would probably allow "one" (or Carlos) to see my underoos in greater detail. Also, before we ate at Sonic, I got on all fours and was pulling grass out from underneath my car. My underwear we in full view at this point apparently because one guy took a really long time to stop at a stop sign, and then honked as he exited the parking lot. These events were then followed by us sitting in the car and seeing 2 Budweiser semi's parked. Now, it's May in Indy, so we are obviously thinking BEER TENT. Excitedly we walk to the tent, only to find Clydesdales Horses, one of which was named Bud. Alas, we didn't need the alcohol anyway.

Near death... now what?

Sam has been trying to get me to create a blog for over a week now. My interest has been fairly nonexistent, mainly because I feel my "thought from afar" aren't nearly as exciting as "the queen's ramblings." That is... until last night.

I am driving home from Lafayette with my friend Alecia where I just enjoyed a superb sushi dinner and a crocheting lesson from my grandmother. It is storming so badly I can barely see, and Aleica asks me to pull off at the Zionsville exit. But, I said, we are only 9 miles from our exit, and I think it is starting to let up... let's just drive. So, now we are passing the sign that reads, "71st Street One Mile." There is a car parked along the shoulder waiting out the storm, minding his/her own business. Next thing I know we are hydroplaning across I-65 South, I totally freak out - over correct to the left, and we proceed to do a 360 in the middle of the interstate. Now we're sliding into the ditch - I overcorrect again, this time to the right. We come to a hault not 2 feet from oncoming I-65 North traffic. My heart was racing. It's still racing. We look at our tire treads and realize we have missed a guard rail by 3 inches. Twenty more feet up, and we could've gone off the bridge. And only 2 feet from oncoming traffic. We managed to drive away from this near death incident physically in tact. Today, I got new tires. Tomorrow I will need to get my muffler tighten back on and figure out what to do with my radiator guard that's now haning from the front of my car. Oddly, Jesus was in my back seat... litterally. I had this genealogy chart of Adam to Jesus I got from my mom's earlier, and put it in my car.

So, if that wasn't exciting enough... Sam takes me to work today and on our way home she offers to sit at the tire place with me. I'm sure the guys there thought we were "together" becuase she kept asking all sorts of questions about my car, and I kept looking back at her while he was talking to me. Mainly becuase I was confused, and thought making funny looks at her would help me understand him better. So, next we decide to go to the car wash and clean off the ditch that's now permanetly clinging to my car. So, I spend almost $10.00 in quarters (that I practically had to bed for from the tire guy, even thought they closed in 10 mins) and my car is somewhat clean. There is still grass hanging from parts of it, but oh well, this is currently the least of my concerns. So, I decide to check my oil, and other things while I'm there, and my car is somewhat clean, when 3 Hispanic guys come up and start hitting on us. One guy, Carlos, gave us both his "taxi cab card" complete with "alternate" phone number, because as Carlos says, "You never know when you'll need a ride." So, next time I'm with 5 males, and need a ride, I'll be sure to call Carlos.

So, I was saved for a reason... what is it?
